In 1972 ambulance manufacturers began using an orange cross to compliment the Omaha Orange ambulance paint color. But in 1973 the American Red Cross objected, as they felt it infinged on the patented red cross symbol.

Only one 1973 Criterion was built. Mass production of the Criterion began in 1974.
