Louis Bernhardt in ABC Ambulance
The first few raised roofs which we made at Crestline were fabricated from steel but we soon realized we needed a fiberglass roof for lighter weight and for manufacturing efficiency. We asked our friend Bob Bowman, who was travelling to Texas with his motor home, to go to Prestige Vehicles in Arlington Texas, convince them to sell him a roof, load it on top of his motorhome and bring it back to Canada. Bob was successful - Prestige sold him a roof. Using the Texas roof, a fiberglass shop in Saskatoon then made a mold and began producing fiberglass roofs for our Crestline ambulances. Note the similarity of the roof on this Prestige ambulance and that of a Crestline ambulance in image #47.
