Emergency Boost

Our ambulances at the time were equipped with dual batteries - one for the chassis and a separate one for the ambulance conversion. But if the chassis battery was dead (by accidentally leaving the headlights on overnight for example) you could press the red EMERGENCY BOOST switch which would momentarilly allow current to flow from the ambulance conversion battery to the chassis battery, allowing the engine to be started, after which the alterntor would once again recharge the dead chassis battery. It was a good system but obviously the labelling of our Emergency Boost switch was not. Apparently a Medicine Hat Paramedic had been driving one of our ambulances on an emergency run and had wanted extra acceleration, so had pressed the EMERGENCY BOOST switch! Ronn Janzen heard about this event so when Medicine Hat came to pick up their next new ambulance, he had a special device attached to the steering wheel. The red label at the top read EMERGENCY BOOST!
