Gartner's Ambulances were side loaders, which meant the car had been modified so that the passenger side door post was attached to the rear "suicide" door, resulting in a clear passageway when both side doors were opened. Then, with the rear seat and the front passenger seat removed, there was adequate space to load a stretcher through the side doors. Thus - a Side-Loader.
